Michael
I started my career in hairdressing 35 years ago having successfully achieved both my level 2 and 3 in hairdressing.
After perfecting my art, I opened my own salon in 1989 which was established for 17 years before I teamed up with Alan to form The Salon, Langley Park in 2003.
During this time, I have enjoyed carrying out the in-salon training and education for our apprentices some of whom have since gone on to open their own successful businesses.
I believe ongoing education and development is vital to our work and I personally receive a great deal of satisfaction from passing on my knowledge to the young hairdressers of today. To help me with this I enrolled and graduated in 2009 with a PCET Teaching degree through Sunderland University at New College Durham.
My favourite areas of hairdressing to teach include cutting, perming and colouring. I regularly attend a variety of courses from top industry names including Andrew Collinge, Lee Stafford, Vidal Sassoon, Hob academy London and Redken to keep abreast of the ever changing trends and latest techniques.
Much of my training takes place in New York which is where I learnt all about the new style of perming – the American Wave, I have also travelled to Italy to watch the process of how hair colour is made which helped me to gain a better understanding of how colour works on the structure of the hair. Hair colour is my absolute passion! I believe your hair colour is the make-up you never take off.
My professional memberships include MYHAIRDRESSER.COM, NICK EDUCATION, HAIRDRESSER TV and SCISSORBOY.COM all of which are hairdressing education sites.
